I Ain't Afraid of No Ghost!
At least not the kind that you sit on!
Phillippe Starck |
One of the most influential European designers, Phillippe Starck,
began designing products for Kartell in the company’s uprise in the 80s and 90s.
Mixing the company’s desire to develop eco-friendly, contemporary plastic furniture
with the designer’s style was the beginning of a beautiful partnership.
Ever since the first Starck product was released under the Kartell name,
the popularity of Starck’s designs increased significantly.
Utilizing polycarbonate, a plastic that can be broken down for
recycling purposes, these designs began popping up everywhere
from hotels, weddings, restaurants and more.
This style of furniture has come to be referred to in the design industry
as Ghost Furniture.
In the past few years we are seeing a popularity in Acrylic
and Lucite furniture emerge.
Come take a look at some of the interesting pieces
that are being shown at the furniture marts!
In this particular chair, they have left air bubbles
in the back and legs. This makes the chair more
flexible and moves with the body.
I would love to have this trunk for my shell collection!
I just ordered this side "drinking table" for
one of my favorite clients!
You can even get drapery hardware.
If you feel adventurous, try adding a ghost piece or two
to your home! There is no reason to be afraid!
