The traveling gals and I always enjoy heading to Cashiers, NC
for the Cashiers Designer Showhouse.
Last year they had a series of smaller homes, that were
perfect for the area around Cashiers.

The house was very different from the Designer Showhouses
of the past several years.
The entrance hall by Atlanta designer, Whitney Ray.
I love her choice for the entry hall light!
There were things we loved and others not so much
in this years showhouse. We were not so sure about
the hanging light in the Dining Room designed
by Balance Design. But the over-sized light fixture trend seems
to be popping up all over the design world.
The verdict is still out on the inlay in the floor!
This alcove off the dining room did make us feel
like we were in the correct "neck of the woods."
A downstairs guestroom designed by Douglas Hilton was
right on trend with pops of peacock blue!
was a trellis of pansies. But the center of the pansies looked like little
monkey faces!
I love the hallway designed by Huff Harrington. It featured
gold accents and a 19th century French Chinoiserie commode.

Long time friend and fellow Brenau graduate, Francie
Hargrove of Cashiers, designed the room we voted
"most likely to want to spend the afternoon lounging."
Francie always has a wonderful mix of old and new
in her Showhouse rooms. They always
get voted "Best of Show" by our group.
Designer Sara Brown created a kitchen that is has rustic
touches, but still feels very luxurious!
And the view out the window isn't to bad either!
Off the kitchen is an outside dining area
and a great area to relax late in the afternoon
with friends and wine!

Standing on the back patio area, you get a great view
of Lake Glenville.
Barbara Westbrook created an elegant Master Bedroom
on the first floor of the house.
Janie Wilburn designed the Master Bath. Her many
antiques and accents made it feel oh so elegant.

At the top of the stairs I found a colorful guest room designed
by friend and former Atlanta Designer Network member,
Susan Currie. We hated for Susan to leave our ADN group and
move to New Orleans.
But Susan is really making a name for herself in the
Crescent City design field. You can see for yourself
with this inviting bedroom.
Susan also designed the balcony sitting area on
the front of the house.
I love hummingbirds and back in 1995, when we built
our house, I selected this Thibaut wallpaper for our
master bathroom water closet.
I knew Thibaut still carried the hummingbird paper in
their wallpaper line. But it still was a surprise
to see that Atlanta designer, Sandy Beck, had picked it
to use in the upstairs dressing area! Just goes to
show that classics never go out of style.
Upstairs on the back of the house, Cashiers designer,
Lynn Monday has created a multi purpose room
that has a great looking bar area.
On the other side of the room is another place to entertain
guest or curl up and read. There is also a balcony off this
room that looks out over the lake.
We did not know what the metal pieces that were marching
across the roof were. After talking to some people
that lived in the area, we learned they were snow blocks or
cleats. They help keep large sheets of snow/ice from sliding
off the roof.
We are always learning when we attend Showhouses.
I hope you enjoyed the tour! It is one of

The Atlanta Decorative Arts Center has a designer
day bus that is part of the showhouse tour each year.
