What in the World is Hygge?

It started as a whisper in 2016.
I first heard the word Hygge used in early 2017, where
it was just starting to catch on in the United States.
But it exploded into use in fashion and interior design worlds in 2018.
It is a Danish term that has no literal translation.
This makes it difficult to precisely know its meaning.

The term is more loosely interpreted as a mood,
lifestyle or even a mental state. It is very Zen.
When used as a decor term it offers peace and tranquility.
It lets your home become a safe haven from the outside world.

Below are some things that will make your home feel Hygge.

The Danes are one of the largest consumers of candles in Europe.
Candlelight glow and cozy feelings make candles an important
part of your Hygge decor.

We all love our hardwood flowers, but make sure there is a
soft warm place for your feet to land. Without rugs, rooms
can feel very cold!

Bring nature inside! Pine cones, twigs, sprigs of evergreen
are all great examples to use.

String lights are fun to use inside of clear containers.

They are also perfect on your porch in the wintertime!

Bring out your favorite throws. The more comfy and soft
the better!

Be kind to yourself! Give yourself a special treat.

The very best of Hygge is a warm fire, a good book and
something warm to drink!

Enjoy a little Hygge in your home this winter!
