To Market To Market...

Once the ringing of the New Year is over, as sure as the weather changes in
Georgia, it is time to head to Market. Every January design and accessory buyers
and sellers are Atlanta bound to the International Gift & Home Furnishings Market. AmericasMart on Peachtree is the nation's leading gift, home furnishings
and area rug marketplace. It is the place to go to see what is new in the industry.
Be it trend or tradition, there is always something for everybody.

Americasmart was founded in 1957 by architect and developer, John C. Portman, Jr. He now jointly leads the company with his son Jeffrey L. Portman Sr. It houses 8,800 exhibit booths and more than 1,400 permanent showrooms within the three building complex.

Here are some of the treasures that were on display at the January/Winter Market.
Pillows were everywhere at this market. From traditional needlepoint, to the current geometric trend, they might be in a bright color or a neutral. The pillows
below are by Elaine Smith and are also indoor/outdoor pillows!

The modern family is in constant motion, so the home needs to foster
tranquility. Wouldn't you love to have this daybed swing to curl up on with
a good book? It says motion and tranquil to me!

Repurpose, recycle, revival  are a continuing theme in the accessory showrooms.
From guitars to a red and black Georgia G, it is amazing what talent is out there breathing new life and meaning into previously used items.

In the Worldly Goods exhibit, you can find every size and shape of brilliant,
bright glass objects!

I am always looking for beautiful bedding lines and upholstered headboard
ideas. Eastern Accents is a line I have used for a number of years. They do
not disappoint and always have new updates to their line. Can you say
Emerald Green for the 2013 color of the year! This would help make your
bedroom a tranquil haven for your master or a guest room.

Do you ever feel like someone is watching you? Curry & Co. has added an
extensive line of furniture in their fabulous showroom. They used seashells
on light fixtures, lamps, mirrors. I could have stayed there all day admiring
their many treasures!

The French Market Collection offered a range of products inspired by the European flea markets. They showed how the light wood of today may turn into our antiques of tomorrow.

Global View always is spot on with the newest and brightest. Not only did they
show this years 2013 Emerald...

But last years Tangerine Tango was still going strong.

Along with Turquoise, which I am convinced is the universal color!

This may be a clue to what the color of 2014 will be. Do you feel mellow yellow?

One interesting highlight I noticed at this years mart were the crowds in
the showrooms and on the display floors. Not only were the store owners and
designers in attendance, but they were buying! Maybe this means we have
survived the fall off the cliff!
