The early designer does not get the best view!

Every August I start looking forward to the
Cashiers Decorator Showhouse!
After gathering all the important info, I rounded up
the Touring Gals and we started making plans.

It seems the older we get the more complicated
our lives get. This year we had a new grandson's visit,
pre-wedding planning and a beach trip to work our schedule around.
That left us with opening day as the best date for
the four of us to go. Well we found out real
quick that you don't want to go the first day!

Everybody from North, South, East and West
were heading to Highlands and Cashiers that day!
Of course by the time we hit Highlands,
we had to stop at the Old Edwards Inn for a libation!

We should have known we were not off to a good start,
when a bus got stuck in front of us on the way into the showhouse
The grounds at Burt Farm are beautiful and we got
to enjoy them as we shuttled in and out by golf cart.

We were quite surprised when we cleared the front door.
The home seemed much bigger from the outside.
It was packed everywhere with people. I could not
have got a clear shot if I had tried.
Thankfully the internet is a lifesaver at a time like this!
I actually enjoyed looking for pictures, because I was
able to see so many details that I had missed because
of the crowds! It was also extremely hot that day, so
the temperature inside the house was sweltering!

Lynn Monday Home
We entered into a small Foyer and were instructed to
go left to the Master Bedroom.

CJ Brownhouse Interiors - Judy Henson
This room was lovely with beautiful bedding and antique pieces.
I love the lucite bench she used at the end of the bed.

The Designers Market - Susan SanSouci

Such an incredible use of space in the Master Bath.
Just love it!
The art work, this designer used over the tub in the Master Bath,
was one of my favorite things in the house!

Lynn Monday Home

Lynn Monday really picked up the mountain feel in the Study.
It is an elegant room without looking to much like a cabin.

Patricia McLean Interiors
Atlanta, Ga.
Atlanta's own Patricia McLean had the Living Room to design
and what a fabulous style she presented.

Mark Williams Design Associates
Niki Papadopoulos and Mark Williams, Atlanta, Ga.
This is the Family Entrance. Doesn't it make you feel welcome?

Lisa Williams Interiors
Liz Williams made the Dining Room so inviting by bringing
all of the natural colors of the outside in! The background of
the draperies were the perfect green for the Cashiers area.

Joan Anderson Interiors
Joan Anderson used the same wonderful green, brown and
soft yellow to bring the outside colors in the Kitchen
and Breakfast Room. Great view to start your day!

McLaurin Interiors
Maria McLaurin
When you are ready to enjoy cooking on the grill,
this Outdoor Dining space is a great place
 to enjoy friends and conversation!

You have a beautiful view of the grounds from the Outdoor area.

Back of the property

This is Part 1 of Showhouse Tour. Be sure and check back for the upstairs
and other cottages on the grounds.

Fabric Find on Dimples and Tangles!

Time spent in Blogland is many things, but one of the big
ones is a "Time Stealer!"

I love my design blogs and I am sure I spend more time than
I should, reading them. I will find myself pouring over one of
my regulars and the next thing I know, there will be
a link to a new one. Something always makes me follow
those links and there goes the time!

This is how I came across Jennifer. Her blog is
Dimples & Tangles. I was scrolling down and
there it was! Something I was familiar with from
my childhood, my Mother's drapery fabric!

Jennifer had pillows on her sofa out of
that oh so familiar oriental print!

From the time I was born, until I was sixteen years old. We had
draw panels made out of this fabric. The fabric covered
a huge picture window in our living room. My Mother loved
this fabric so much. When she and her interior designer
replaced the draperies, she had pillows made to use on
her outdoor furniture. This was long before the time
of indoor/outdoor fabric. But if company was coming,
out came the pillows!

After my parents passed away, I found the panels hanging in the
guest bedroom closet. I took them to my drapery fabricator to
make valances for my guest bedroom at our house. He did a fabulous job
creating what I had in mind. We also did pillows for the
bed too.

Jennifer and I emailed about her pillows and she told
me that she had found out it was a vintage Chippendale,
bark cloth fabric by Markwood Fabrics.
It is  available on Etsy through retro fit pattern
 for $95.00 a yard.

Stay and look around awhile, she has plenty to share!

Now if I can just locate the Gingham Dog and the Calico Cat*
fabric that was used in my nursery. It was inspired
by "The Duel" by Eugene Field. here  That is the
Gingham Dog you see over my shoulder.

Christ Church Tour of Homes means it is Spring Fever Time! Part 2

It is time to continue with the second part of our
Christ Church Tour.

We will get on a new bus at Gascoigne Bluff on Saint Simons.
This bus will take us out to one of the newer areas on
the island.

This area is Frederica Townhship. It is on the north end of
Saint Simons. One visit here and it is evident why
the private gated community is the pinnacle of
Southern Coastal real estate. To read more click here

Tour Stop #5 on the map has a wonderful front porch
to sit and relax. This welcoming home is on the
lake at Frederica.

This is the center of the circular driveway
in front of the house.

Love the panels and doors in this room.

Off the entrance to the house.

From the living area to the mudroom

I love this bathroom idea! The floor area is sunk and the tub
is placed in large decorative stones. It makes an in and out
less challenging!

Tour Stop # 6 is another beautiful home in Frederica.
It is located on a lagoon in the back.

This home was designed for entertaining.
Attention to detail is everywhere!
Especially in the wine lounge which features
two wine towers. Don't miss the curved brick ceiling!

Loved this back splash!

This back porch with the glass fireplace is where I
would like to curl up and read!

Our last stop is in a lovely area near the pier called
Village Oaks. I looked for a picture of the outside of
this house, but no luck.
This is the great room with white ship lap walls,
which continue through out the house.

The easy maintenance of the flooring, countertops and fabrics
make this the perfect house for a busy family.

The dining area offers plenty of seating for the family or entertaining.

The downstairs powder room has touches of the ocean.
Especially of interest is the mirror over the vanity!

Outside this home you will find one of
the islands famous tree spirits.

This wraps up our 63rd Christ Church Tour of Homes.
Thank you for joining me on this years tour.
I am already looking forward to next years tour!
Come join us!

Christ Church Tour of Homes means it is Spring Fever Time!

“It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is.
And when you've got it, you want—
oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want,
but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”
~Mark Twain~

I love the Spring and nothing makes me feel that nudge
of Spring Fever more than the Christ Church Tour of Homes!

The gals and I packed up our
cars and head south to Saint Simons Island, Ga.
This year's tour was an absolute gem on the
Tour of Homes circuit!
The Christ Church Tour of Homes takes place every March.
on St. Simons and Sea Island and is hosted
by the Episcopal Church Women. This years
tour marked the 63rd year for the tour.

The tour takes up to 400 volunteers to make it happen!

This tour is one that does not
allow photographs. So I had to do a lot of
digging to come up with some of these.
So hop on the bus to take us
over to Sea Island and let's get started.

STOP 3 was on a quiet cul de sac
and was originally built by Frank McCall in 1985.
It was recently redesigned by the team of
John Shackelford, Terry Hagin, Pat Stafford,
Candace Brewer and Mark Owens.

The owners main purpose for the redesign was to showcase
their extensive collection of art. This team was still able to
maintain the homes original character.
The above piece was commissioned by the owner using
pieces of her jewelry, buttons and keepsakes.
This work is by Miami artist, Nina Surel.

The home is owned by Larry D and Brenda A Thompson who
in 2012 donated 100 works, to the Georgia Museum of Art,
 from their exceptional collection
of works by African-American artists.
They still maintained a large art collection in their home.
For such a diverse collection, the way the art had been
displayed let your eye flow from piece to piece. There
was a feeling of unity in the collection, but each piece still
had a place of honor.

STOP 4 on Sea Island is in the gated community of
Ocean Forest. This home sits on a bluff overlooking a lake.
You will find many surprises in this home!
As you enter the foyer of the Ocean Forest home, you
are greeted by a large "turtle" table, one of several
turtles in their collection.

This home was designed by Mary Bryan Peyer. Working
with architects and local contractors, she has created a beautiful
and relaxing home.
The Master Bedroom

 Master Bath

 Daughter's Bedroom

 Guest Bedroom

The owner is a big "Buckhorn" fan!

We will leave the house and head over to the Guest Cottage.
How much fun would we have staying in this home
away from home. There are trophies from big game
and fishing expeditions.

An eight person poker table

and pool table.

.

Cottage Bedroom

And last, but certainly not least, is the owners
car collection!

We have three more homes to see, so we can hop back
on the bus or make a new plan to take the trolley!

We will continue Part 2 of the Tour of Homes
on Saint Simons Island with Stop 2 in the Village and
Stop 5 and 6 at Frederica Township.

Please come back and join us!

*Buses are at Gascoigne Bluff. If you are familiar with
Saint Simons and Sea Island this map will help you locate
the Tour Stops.

Stop 1 is St. Ignatius Church, Stop 7 is Musgrove Plantation,
Stop 8 is the Cemetery and Parish House and
Stop 9 is Christ Church. These
three stops are on the tour every year.
